The brand is most known for its timekeeping devices used to aid aviators.In 1884 Leon Breitling founded the company in Saint-Imier. All Breitling watches are manufactured in Switzerland using Swiss watch parts. The caliber B01 and caliber B04 are actually manufactured by Breitling themselves. However, ETA and Valjoux are the primary suppliers of watch movements for Breitling. All work performed to construct a watch is done in Breitling facilities and watchmaking shops.
The watch then undergoes a COSC certification.Years ago in 2009 Breitling developed the BR01 movement, which was a mechanical chronograph. The watch was used as a component to construct the Breitling Chronomat 01, which was the first watch to be entirely put together by Breitling without any outside parts by other watchmakers. Shortly afterwards, other watches that were entirely put together by Breitling were called the Breitling Chronomat GMT and the Breitling Chronomat 44 GMT – both of which utilize the B04 movement.There has long been a controversy in regards to the Breitling name. Originally, the name was supposed to be pronounced “Bret-ling” but marketing forces eventually shifted the name to be pronounced as “Bright-ling.” In public and on any publications, the company will refer to itself as the latter pronunciation.
